Preserving the History of Midtown Manhattan
The Mary Louisa Vanderbilt Shepard Mansion, built in 1891 and also known as the Schieffelin-Bowne House, is the last surviving Gilded Age mansion on 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan. As one of the few remaining reminders of the street's historic character, it now faces demolition by Soloviev Group. Its loss would erase an irreplaceable piece of New York City's architectural heritage.
Save57 is working to build public awareness and engage with the Landmarks Preservation Commission, elected officials, preservation organizations, and other stakeholders to advocate for preservation of the facade and architectural character of 35 West 57th Street as redevelopment plans move forward.
